»70 years of Choir singing!

A man who joined a choir in 1940 in Somerset when he was eight years old has celebrated 70 years of singing with the same church group.


Mervyn Salmon, 78, became part of St Cuthbert's Church choir in Wells when Winston Churchill was prime minister and King George VI was on the throne, that's Queen Elizabeth's father!!

He said, "I've sung constantly for 70 years except during national service."

»Successful surgery of Conjoined twins

A team of 27 doctors of a city hospital successfully separated 18-month-old Siamese twins — Gita and Sita — who were joined at the waist. The surgery began at 7 in the morning and continued till late in the evening.

“The sisters have been successfully separated and both are doing well. It took almost 13 hours to do the job,” Dr Sanjeev Bagai, Chief Executive Officer of Batra Hospital and Research Centre, where the surgery was carried out, said. The reconstruction process is taking place now which will end late, he added.

»Schoolgirl arrested for doodling on desk

"Doodling" on your desk might get you suspended... but it could make you very rich too!  Only in America! :)

A 12-year-old girl who was hauled out of her New York City school in handcuffs for doodling on her desk has started legal action against the city over her arrest.

A lawyer for Alexa Gonzalez filed legal papers seeking US$1 million in damages, saying the girl was subjected to overly harsh treatment.

"Star Wars" creator George Lucas' Lucasfilm Animation said yesterday that it is developing a new animated "Star Wars" series that will take a comedic and irreverent look at the characters from the sci-fi franchise.

This will feature the likes of actor Seth Green.

»Thumbs down to Tomb Raider III

Hollywood actress Megan Fox has declined the offer of playing Lara Croft in Tomb Raider III. She gave it the thumbs down as she didn't want to be compared to the greatness that is Angelina Jolie! The Transformer's star claims she's constantly compared to Jolie and cannot handle it anymore.  Hmm I wonder why the producers did'nt want to continue with Angelina, but looks like they may have to now that Megan Fox has turned them down.

»iPad mammoth sales!

Apple says it sold more than 300,000 of its latest product, the iPad tablet computer, on its launch day in the US alone!

Apple said that iPad users had downloaded more than one million applications from its app store and more than 250,000 electronic books.

The first generation model has wi-fi but not 3G connectivity. Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said in a statement that the touchscreen device was "going to be a game changer".

In case you're wondering, PDA when expanded spells public displays of affection and they're not welcome in Dubai.
A young man and woman were sentenced to a month in a Dubai prison with subsequent deportation (as they are British nationals) and fined about 200 pounds for drinking alcohol. But what was the main reason behind this punishment? Well, a complaint was made against them by a 38 year old woman dining with her two year at a restaurant who claims the couple were kissing in public and that she found this to be against the culture and moral decency of the country.
